10 Years of Vaginismus Awareness Day

10 Years of Vaginismus Awareness Day - Sh! Women's Store
At Sh! we know just how tough vaginismus can be, not just physically, but emotionally too. For years, customers have shared their stories with us: feeling alone, dismissed, or too embarrassed to talk about what they’re going through. That’s why we created Vaginismus Awareness Day.
We wanted to shine a light on a condition that’s so often hidden in the shadows, to say "you’re not alone" and to start conversations that make it easier to ask for help. Marking this day helps break the silence, spread understanding, and remind everyone that there is support, treatment, and hope.

2025 marks the 10th anniversary of Vaginismus Awareness Day.

What is Vaginismus?

Vaginismus happens when the muscles around your vagina tighten up automatically, especially during penetration. That can make sex, using tampons, or even smear tests painful, tricky, or even impossible.
There’s no single cause - our bodies and minds are complicated! Stress, anxiety, past experiences, fear of pain, or just not knowing your body fully can all play a part.
The good news? With the right support, most people see improvement. It’s possible to go on to enjoy sexual pleasure, p-i-v (if that is what you want), and feel more confident in your body.

Why You Shouldn’t Self-Diagnose

It can be tempting to try to figure everything out on your own if you suspect you have vaginismus, but please don't do this. When it comes to vaginismus, professional support really matters. Everyone’s body and experience are different, and symptoms can overlap with other conditions. A qualified therapist, doctor, or pelvic floor specialist can give you an accurate diagnosis, guide you through safe and effective treatment, and provide emotional support along the way.

Sh! & the World’s First Soft Silicone Vibrating Dilator Set

We know that vaginismus can be frustrating, confusing, and sometimes downright painful. That’s why we created the world’s first soft silicone vibrating dilator set: to help you take control of your journey, gently, comfortably, and yes - a little bit pleasurably.
Our dilators are soft, body-safe, and designed to fit your body perfectly: flexible shafts, smooth tapered tips, a wide base, and a removable vibrating bullet to make things easier (and more relaxing!). Many therapists, nurses, and doctors recommend them, so you may have heard of them already. If not, take a peek here: Sh! Vaginal Dilators – soft silicone vibrating kit.

Why Vibration is Helpful

Using a set of graded vaginal dilators is one of the best ways to gently work with your body when dealing with vaginismus. These little helpers come in increasing sizes, letting your body get used to sensation at your own pace, easing fear, and helping your pelvic floor muscles relax. Over time, gentle stretching, repeated practice, and relaxation techniques can make a huge difference.
Adding vibration takes things to the next level:
  • It helps tense nerve endings relax and can make insertion feel much more comfortable.
  • The gentle buzz can distract, soothe, and ease anxiety, making the experience more manageable - and even pleasurable!
  • Vibration also improves circulation, which is great for tissue health and healing.
  • Many users notice that vibrations help break up muscle spasms or reflexive clenching, so insertion becomes smoother and less stressful.
In short, vibration isn’t just a little luxury - it’s a helpful friend for your body, making the path to comfort and confidence a lot gentler.
