What is pegging?

For the uninitiated, pegging is when a woman penetrates a male partner's anus with a strap-on. As a term, pegging was popularised by Dan Savage in his SavageLove column back in 2001. It brought this sexy activity into the bedrooms of adventurous and pleasure-seeking couples everywhere.

If you’ve never heard about it before, allow us to let you in on a little secret – over the last 15 years or so, pegging has become very popular for straight couples.

Why peg your man?

There are lots of reasons why to explore pegging as the 'pegger':

  • Pleasuring a partner with a strap-on lets you use your hands for teasing and touching other parts of your lover's body.
  • You can ditch boring gender roles and take on the role of the penetrator-slash-pleasure-giver. This can result in spectacular and highly erotic play sessions for both parties. Swapping roles is hot!
  • If you are blessed with a responsive clitoris and strong pelvic floor, you can even rock, ride and thrust your way to orgasm whilst wearing a strap-on.
  • The intimacy and trust you share with your partner is a huge turn-on!

Why get pegged?

As a male-bodied person, there are many reasons to explore pegging but the pursuit of pleasure is at the top of the list!

  • You have a prostate stashed away inside your bum. This magical walnut of a gland can offer untold pleasures when stimulated. Prostate play is intensely erotic, and orgasms are often more explosive when the P-spot is involved (something sex workers have known for a long time).
  • As someone whose role is probably more active during sex, just being pleasured will be a whole different perspective.
  • If you want to explore the potentially submissive aspect of pegging, go for it. Role play is not compulsory - but if it rocks your boat, being pegged/penetrated by your partner has massive erotic potential for role-reversal.

Does pegging mean I'm gay or my partner is?

Simple answer - not at all! Pegging has nothing to do with sexual orientation or attraction.

Wanting to explore pegging simply means that:

  • You understand the erotic potential and intimacy of this incredible act.
  • That the prostate deservedly should be explored and enjoyed as much as the G-spot.
  • Couples who explore together gain SO much more than simply another act to add to their sexual repertoire, opening up communication and adventure together.

How to get started with pegging?

First of all, you need to have a conversation with your partner about it. Introducing sex toys to your relationship, whether a small bullet or a full-on pegging kit requires both partners to be on the same page; excited and aroused by this potential new aspect of their sexual repertoire.

Once you and your partner are at this stage, there are a few specific things you need to agree upon before getting your pegging-pleasure on:

  • Keep all communication open, honest & ongoing. Discuss why pegging feels like a hot topic to explore together. Especially cover emotional turn-ons, desires or fantasies, so you're on the same page. If role-play is part of your pegging fantasy, make sure you both consent to this (mid-pegging session is NOT the time to suddenly introduce it!).
  • Know your anal anatomy and how relaxing anal muscles is key to pleasure
  • Be patient - going slowly and gently is the only way to ensure any form of anal play, including pegging, is sensual and pain-free.
  • Be generous with the lubricant - the anus and rectum aren't self-lubricating, so a generous dollop of anal lube is essential, re-applying it throughout your pegging session.
  • Build confidence - for your first pegging session we recommend that the receiving partner should be in control of depth and pace. This ensures they only go as deep and fast as they are comfortable, which allows you both to build up your pegging confidence.

What's the best dildo for pegging?

  • Start small! This is not the time to get size-queen/king about your pegging prowess. So long as you get a separate harness for your dildo, you can always upgrade later.
  • Slim dildos are best for pegging, especially for newbies. A too-wide dildo will not get past first base.
  • When using a dildo in a strap-on, you do need a bit of length to allow for some of that length being lost once it's strapped, and also to allow for strokes (a too-short dildo will not let you deliver/receive long strokes)
  • Ribbed dildos deliver sensations that the butt particularly loves.
  • G-spot dildos, specially curved to massage for G-spot, are also a great shape for P-spot massage. If you use a dildo with a curve or upward tilt, remember to turn it so it's facing downwards in your harness in any pegging positions coming from behind.
  • The best dildos for pegging are always made out of silicone. Why? Because silicone is non-porous (so can't absorb any nasties) and is super easy to clean - you can even sterilize a silicone dildo by boiling it.

What are the best positions for pegging?

  • Doggy Pegging Position

An obvious one, but a goodie, because there is full, clear access! For newbies who haven't yet built up their pegging confidence together, the receiving partner can still be in control of pace and depth by backing onto the dildo. If they need to stop and breathe for a few moments, they can do that too.

Having the receiving partner 'back up' also gives his partner, who has to get in tune with a probably alien 'thrust' action, an idea of how deep and fast to go...

In doggy-style position, remember to turn any dildo with a curve so that it is pointing downwards within the strap-on - his prostrate is positioned towards the front of his body in this position, so a 'curved upwards' dildo will feel uncomfortable for him.

  • Cowboy Pegging Position

Another great one for first-time pegging, as this is the ultimate position for the receiving partner to control depth/pace and for the 'pegger' to build confidence without having to thrust like a porn star. With the 'pegger' either lying on the bed or sitting on a chair, the 'pegee' straddles the dildo and lowers themselves down...

Regular 'cowboy' is with partners facing each other and 'reverse cowboy' is with the receiving partner facing the opposite way.

Remember to position your dildo correctly in the strap-on, so that it curves the correct way to massage his prostate.

  • Missionary Pegging Position

This feels incredibly intimate as you can lock eyes. It does however require the 'pegger' do do most of the thrusting work, so missionary is probably not a position for first-time pegging.

The reversal of roles will also probaby mean that the receiving partner is unused to holding their legs open, or up, for so long and that the active partner is unused to holding their weight on their arms for so long - so there will be a lot of aching muscles the next day!

Doing it on the end of the bed (if the height of it allows) or finding a piece of furniture that is the correct height for the 'pegger' to stand or kneel (put a cushion down to protect them) is an inventive way to attain the intimacy of missionary, without putting too much strain on the pegger's arms.
