A guide to the different speed options vibrators can offer and which might be the best for you.
On each product page, you will find a tab called 'Tech Spec." This is where you'll find practical information about an individual vibrator. This helps make an informed decision about a toy.
How do we rate vibrator speed?
Every vibrator is rated for intensity and volume ratings at full speed, whether the vibrator has a single speed, different speeds, or multi-speed (fully variable).
We don't use special tech instruments to do this - just our experience handling and testing vibrators for 30+ years! We test each vibe on the highest setting and rate it. It really is that simple :)
As a vibrator buzzes at 200 oscillations a minute, even a single-speed vibrator usually provides the right kind of vibration most women enjoy, and many find orgasmic.
Single-speed vibrators
Vibrators with a single speed are simple in design and function. A single-speed vibe is good if you want an uncomplicated toy for travelling, slipping in your handbag, or needing only one speed to get you off.
However, we think that the option to have more speed control on a vibrator is always a benefit. This gives you the choice of toning things down as well as revving things up. Sometimes a vibrator can be just too darn efficient in its orgasm-inducing power!
Multi-speed vibrators
Many vibrators offer a choice of different speeds. Some have as many as five different speeds of continuous vibration.
A vibe with a multi-speed dial which lets you control the intensity. The only downside of a multi-speed vibrator is that the dial or a button can weaken and even break.
Remember that by 'speed' we mean the different speeds of basic (non-pulsing) vibration. Many vibrators have additional functions, like pulse patterns, escalating vibes and even rotation.
