Trans & Non-Binary Sex Toy Questions, Answered

What trans & non-binary people ask most about sex toys.

What are the best sex toys for trans and non-binary people?

There isn’t one type of toy that’s best. Start with the sensations you enjoy or want to explore. Vibration, pressure, penetration, stroking, anal play and whole-body stimulation can all be explored in whatever way feels good to you.

Are sex toys gender-specific?

No. Categories can make toys easier to find, but pleasure doesn’t follow labels. A toy marketed for a particular gender or body part may work beautifully somewhere completely different. Think of the description as a starting point, not a set of rules.

Can sex toys be used for gender-affirming pleasure?

Absolutely. For some people, toys can help create sensations, roles or experiences that feel affirming, from wearing a strap-on to exploring different kinds of touch. There’s no single definition of gender-affirming pleasure, so what matters is how an experience feels to you.

How do I choose a toy if I experience gender dysphoria?

Start with what feels comfortable and affirming for you. That might mean exploring pleasure away from the genitals, choosing a toy whose shape or appearance feels right, or finding new ways to enjoy familiar sensations. You decide which parts of your body you want involved in pleasure, if any.

What toys can I use without genital stimulation?

Plenty. Wand vibrators, nipple toys, sensory toys, massage products and kink accessories can be enjoyed across the body. Even toys, particularly vibrators, which are commonly associated with genital stimulation can often be explored elsewhere - just follow the product's safety guidance and the golden rule; never put anything but an anal-safe toy, up your, or anybody's, bum.

Can I use toys differently from how they're marketed?

Often, yes. We love creative toy use at Sh!, provided it stays body-safe. Vibrators, for example, can be explored across many sensitive areas of the body. For anal penetration, however, always use a purpose-designed anal toy with a secure flared base or stopper.

Are strap-ons only for certain genders or couples?

Not at all. Anyone can wear a strap-on and anyone can enjoy receiving one. Strap-ons can be about penetration, sensation, intimacy, power, gender expression or simply trying something new.

How do I talk to a partner about body language and boundaries?

Ask rather than assume. You can talk about which words feel good for body parts, where and how you like to be touched, and anything you'd rather avoid. Preferences can change too, so consent and communication are ongoing conversations, not a one-off checklist.

Why does Sh! have a Trans & Non-Binary collection?

We use collections to make it easier to discover products that may suit particular kinds of pleasure and play. This collection brings together toys and products particularly popular with our trans and non-binary customers, but it isn't a rulebook. Browse wherever feels right for you.
