Some people wear their BDSM bondage collars 24/7, and others wear them only for play. We know some folks who wear their collars to feel grounded during a stressful day or if they are missing their partner and wish to feel close. Whatever their reason for wearing a collar, it should be respected.
While a person wearing a collar may be shouting loud and proud about their submissiveness, it doesn’t mean you can automatically touch them or play with them. This is a common assumption and one we have seen on many occasions during our erotic bondage classes. Rather than risking being thrown out of the venue for predatory behaviour, you should always assume you can look but not touch.
BDSM Collar Safety
A collar should fit well but not be so tight that the wearer finds it impossible to breathe comfortably. Make sure you can place one or two fingers in-between the skin and the collar. If not, the collar is too tight and needs to be loosened.
Occasionally we meet couples where the dominant partner wants the other partner to wear a collar during play, but the submissive partner starts feeling claustrophobic once the collar is fastened. In these instances, it's much better to find something different to wear, like a ring or a bracelet.

For folks who wear a collar for play only, the process of bringing out the coveted collar, and having it placed around the neck, is a sign. Power is being handed over to the Dominant so the submissive can relax in the knowledge that they are no longer in charge. They can safely alter their mindset and enter sub-space. For the time the collar is worn, the established roles are observed. Once the scene finishes and the collar is removed, the usual power balance is restored between the couple.
