"I got laid last night - it was great!"
She said it with such joy we all spontaneously burst out in a round of applause, before hugging her. At that point, we wouldn't have been surprised if fireworks had gone off over east London, such was the excitement.
It might not seem like such a big thing, especially not when said in a sex shop; people have sex all the time, right? But this is different.
The person who inspired this piece, the woman who enjoyed such a momentous, memorable lay, is a survivor of sexual violence. And that's why this particular leg-over is one to celebrate - we are all thrilled for her! (We may have slipped a lube sample kit into her bag because we're pretty sure she'll need it...)
Getting to this point has taken hard work - years of building enough confidence to trust another person intimately. Judging by her beaming smile, the hard work has paid off :)))
Without having asked (because it's none of our business), we're sure that she has felt utterly disconnected from her body. Perhaps she's even thought that sex & pleasure isn't for her. But slowly & surely, bit by bit, she's rebuilt herself, and now she's having the time of her life! <3
This is an important message for everybody who feels that sex and pleasure aren't for them. It is possible to move on from deep trauma to eventually find yourself in a healthy & happy mental and emotional space where you can trust someone with your body again - it is possible to meet a special someone you'll feel safe with and connected to.
We want to take this opportunity to wish her all the best on her exciting pleasure-discovering journey:
Queen, always wear your invisible crown and ensure to celebrate your every achievement, however big or small.
Lots of love,
Team Sh! xx
