“When I look at the pictures Ashley took of me, I see that I am fighting … But if you don’t understand why I’d step in front of the camera to show my relationship with cancer, it’s because you don’t know me. I had no choice” Tutu
Tutu, performance-artist and cancer-battler will be performing a live performance at Sh! to launch their Breast Cancer Awareness month which will raise money for Breakthough Breast Cancer through sales of toys as well as raise awareness amongst their customers
Tutu is an inspiring woman who has always loved to perform; her fabulously chaotic Doris Day versus Cortney Love striptease routine at Madame Jojo's & Heaven were legendary.
Sadly in 2009, Tutu discovered a lump in her breast, which was diagnosed as cancer. The photographic series 'Cancer Sucks', by Ashley Savage, which will be shown throughout the evening, endeavors to document Tutu's battle from the early stages of treatment and is a work in progress, as this is one fight that is by no means won.
Tutu’s work is as much about female self esteem & acceptance of one’s body as it is about her battle with cancer. Swinging between comedy and tragedy, this is likely to be one of the most as it is about charting her journey with breast cancer, so expect this to be one of the most life-affirming, thought-provoking and emotional rollercoaster events in the Sh! calendar.
